HOW CAN A SCHOOL IMPLEMENT DIKSHA
The program aims to impart functional literacy
and numeracy to non-literate adults in
rural as well as urban areas. The project will be implemented by Schools directly through
its students.
School children from Class 6 and above will be
encouraged to teach non-literate adults.
Implementation Process
- Schools to understand the adult literacy programme and adopt it.
- Schools to appoint Teacher Coordinator for the Adult Literacy Programme.
- Organize an Orientation Session for School Students in the School Motivational
Video and How to Teach Video to be shown.
- Prepare the list of students who commit to Diksha-Each One Teach One through
Student Enrolment form.
- Details of Schools through School Registration to be uploaded at the Adult Literacy
Portal.
- Schools to give the Parent Consent form to the respective students.
- Student volunteer to get Parent Consent Form signed within 7 days from the
Orientation programme and submit it back to School. (Parent Consent Form to be
stored by school).
- Student Volunteers to identify adult non literates in the vicinity/neighbourhood and
register on the adult literacy portal that includes uploading adult learner’s data
within 15 days from the Orientation Programme.
- Student volunteer to register on the portal that includes uploading Adult Learner’s
data within 15 days from the orientation programme
- Schools to request to ILM for Adult Literacy Toolkits and give a declaration about the
number of copies to be sent.
- Schools to organize Final Training for Student Volunteers about the Programme
especially by Teacher Coordinator followed by Distribution of Adult Literacy Kit.
- Student Volunteer starts teaching adult learner and update progress report of the
adult learner after completion of 30 sessions of the programme.
- Student Volunteer to update adult learner progress report after completion of 60
sessions of the programme.
- During the teaching if there’s an issue ILM can be contacted.
- Exams for adult learners to be conducted by ILM.
- Certification of adult learners and Student Volunteers (to be downloaded from the
portal)
Roles & Responsibilities of the School Principal/Teacher Coordinator/Parents/Student
Volunteer under Diksha Model
I. School Principal:
- Organizes the Orientation Programme in School
- Appoint a Teacher Coordinator
- Motivate Students during School assembly
- Register School at the Adult Literacy Portal to monitor the program
- Oversees, monitors the entire Adult Literacy Programme in School
II. Teacher Coordinator:
- Ensure that School registers at the adult literacy portal where a login number will be
assigned.
- As the School assembly is called upon, the Teacher coordinator:
- shows the motivational video developed by ILM
- demonstrates the presentations curated by ILM
- Encourage and motivate students to join the program and fill up the Adult Literacy
Student Volunteer enrollment form.
- Ensure that the parents of the concerned students have given their consent and
accordingly have signed the Parent’s Consent Form.
- Teacher Coordinator will follow-up to see that Student Volunteers quickly identify
the adult learner that the student wishes to teach.
- Teacher Volunteer will ensure that the Student Volunteer has registered at the adult
literacy portal and also has added the information of the Adult Learner.
- Teacher Coordinator to distribute adult literacy kits among the Student Volunteers
who have login details.
- Teacher Volunteer will monitor, encourage and motivate Student Volunteers to
make progress in the Adult Literacy Program.
- Will motivate the Student Volunteer to update the progress report of the adult
learners after 30 session and 60 session respectively.
- Will follow-up with Student Volunteer to motivate the Adult Learner to appear for
the final examination to be conducted by ILM.
- Teacher Coordinator will constantly motivate the Student Volunteers throughout the
program.
III. Parents:
- Fill up and sign the Parent’s Consent Form.
- Provide guidance to the Ward (i.e, the Student Volunteer).
- Keep motivating the Student Volunteers throughout the course of the program.
- Student Volunteers teaching Adult Learners should do so under parental supervision
so as to not be abused in any manner.
IV. Student Volunteers:
- Listen attentively to the Presentation and understand the programme.
- Fill up and sign the Adult Literacy Student Volunteer Enrollment form.
- Get the Parent’s Consent form signed.
- Identify an adult learner within the neighbourhood or nearby area in a span of 15
days.
- Identification of an adult learner: This can be done by looking around in the
surrounding In rural areas approaching through Panchayat Pradhan/other
officials can be a good start.
- Register self and the Adult learner at the Adult Literacy Portal.
- A Registration number will be auto-generated for future.
- On showing the registration number Student Volunteers will receive the Adult
Literacy Kits from the school.
- After logging in, Student Volunteers will have access to these on the Adult Literacy
Portal:
- Motivational Video
- Tutorial video (How to teach)
- Guideline PowerPoint Presentations
- Soft copy of Primers
- Other information
- Build a good rapport with the Adult Learner.
- Student Volunteer will start teaching the Adult Learner.
- Discuss Latest news or Current Affairs amidst teaching sessions.
- Progress of the adult learner to be uploaded on the Adult Literacy Portal after 30 and
60 Sessions respectively.
- Encourage the Adult learner to appear for the final examination/assessment by
NIOS/ ILM

Student Volunteers & adult learners at the portal
- Final Training for Student Volunteers about the Programme at the school by Teacher Coordinator followed
by distribution of ALK
- Student Volunteer to starts teaching adult learner and update progress report of the adult learner after
completion of 30 days of the programme
- Student Volunteer to update adult learner progress report after completion of 60 days of the program
- Exams for adult learners to be conducted by RILM

To participate in the Adult Literacy Programme you have the following option

- Identification of Schools
- Meet the Principal or Head of the Institution and convince them about the Adult
Literacy programme. Use form no ALD1-Download

- Ensure Schools to appoint Teacher Coordinator
- Volunteer Organizations to ensure Orientation of the Students in the School
Assembly is organized. Motivational Video and How to Teach Video to be shown
- SSchools to prepare the list of students who commit to Diksha-Each One Teach One
through Student Enrolment form. Use form no ALD2-Download Now
- Schools to ensure Registration of School at the Adult Literacy Portal
- Schools to give the parent consent form to the respective students for parent’s

that all Parent Consent forms have been submitted by Students ASAP.
- Student Volunteers to identify adult illiterates in the vicinity/neighbourhood and
register on the portal that includes uploading adult learner’s data within 15 days
from the orientation programme.
- SSchools to give a declaration about the number of Adult Literacy Kits to be received
and automatically Volunteer Organizations will receive a Copy of the declaration
- After receiving the Declaration Copy Rotary Clubs to make the necessary payment to
ILM for Adult Literacy Kits.
- Schools will receive the Adult Literacy Kits within 7 days of Student Volunteer
Registration at the Adult Literacy Portal.
- Final Training of Student Volunteers about the Programme at the School by Teacher
Coordinator followed by distribution of Adult Literacy Kits
- Ensure that Student Volunteer Updates Progress Report of the Adult Learner after
completion of 30 sessions and 60 sessions of the programme.
- Submission of a report by school to ILM/ Volunteer Organizations that Student
Volunteers have finished Teaching. All Progress Report filled up, and accordingly
asking for question papers.
- Volunteer Organizations to oversee that exams for Adult Learners has been
organized and conducted
- To oversee that Students and Adult learners have received certificates. (to be
downloaded from the portal)
- Keep in touch with the Teacher Coordinator to oversee that the adult literacy
programme is running smoothly in school and troubleshoot when necessary.
