Any person who is 15 years of age or above and is unable to the perform more than one or all of the below
Almost one third of the world’s adult non-literate live in India which is approximately 27 crores. As per census 2011, the literacy rate of India was 74.04% which by next census is expected to touch 80% at the most. Until we make these adults literate, the dream of becoming a totally literate country would never be fulfilled. Literacy alleviates poverty, and by making the country literate we would be taking steps to alleviate poverty in India.
India Literacy Mission (ILM) has set a goal of making 5 Crore adults literate by the year 2030. ILM is using a Two-fold method to achieve this goal:
a. Vidya Each One Teach Many (EOTM)-Centre based model. Local Volunteer Teacher/Prerak will identify non-literate adults in the community and run adult literacy classes at a common place.
b. Diksha- Each One Teach One
